Recreational Fire Information

The open burning of brush, yard waste, leaves etc. is NOT permitted in the City of Walled Lake. 

Actual “Burn-Permits” are no longer issued by the Fire Department. Residents may enjoy a small “Recreational” fire (campfire). NO PERMIT IS REQUIRED for a “Recreational” fire.

A small recreational fire is legal under the following conditions:
Burning of fire wood only
Size of fire can be no greater than 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet high
Fire can at no time create a fire hazard
No flammable liquids can be used
Fire must be constantly attended with a means of extinguishing readily available
Fires that are in a container meant for the purpose of having a fire can be no closer than 15 feet from a structure
Uncontained campfires can be no closer than 25 feet from a structure
Brush, leaves, rubbish and yard waste is illegal to burn and should be bagged up and recycled at the curbside.
Per City Ordinance if a complaint is received you may be required to extinguish the fire.

File of Life

The File of Life program uses clear plastic envelopes to store pertinent medical information in plain view on refrigerator doors. The magnetized holders contain a standard medical form on which the homeowners record medical history, medications, etc. EMS personnel automatically check refrigerator doors when a homeowner is unconscious or unable to communicate with first responders.

Firefighters at the firehouse are happy to provide this service.

How can I get my fire extinguisher refilled?

The Walled Lake Fire Department does not service or refill fire extinguishers.  Look online or in the yellow pages under "fire equipment" to locate companies that do.

Does the Fire Department have a Fire Cadet program?

Yes, the program is designed for teenagers from the ages of 15 years to 18 years old. It’s a great way to learn about career in emergency services. Call the Fire Department main office for details 248-624-2088.
